Welcome to Lyonshall

Lyonshall Today

Lyonshall is an attractive village set in glorious hilly countryside near the small market town of Kington in North West Herefordshire. The main part of the village is spread along the A480 in a small valley with most of the houses clustered near a crossroads by the Royal George public house. The Royal George has unfortunately been closed for some time but has been purchased by a local resident. He has recently been granted planning permission for his ambitious plans to restore and extend the public house by reviving its restaurant and adding a village shop, an auditorium, a cafe and a children's play area.

The area of the Civil Parish is quite large and consists of farms, some woodland and the small hamlets of Holme Marsh, Next End, The Whittern, New Street, Bullocks Mill and Woonton Ash. There are many other smaller groups of houses around the neighbourhood area. In common with all other areas of the country, Lyonshall is being encouraged to permit further expansion and to this end a number of small housing developments have been approved. These developments are intended to be sympathetic to the style and character of the village with the emphasis on good, individual design. The forthcoming Neighbourhood Development Plan will identify additional areas for development with the same emphasis.
