For almost 2 years now there has been a project to deliver much faster broadband to the whole of the county of Herefordshire, recognizing its importance as a key part of the utility infrastructure in much the same way as the provision of roads, water, electricity, postal service and phones. This project has now been formally approved, funding lined up, contractor appointed, and detailed phased implementation plans are to be produced. It has also been given a trendy name, "Fastershire".
Fastershire is a partnership between Herefordshire Council, Gloucestershire County Council and BT to bring faster broadband to Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. The project launched at Vantage Point Business Village in Gloucestershire on the 19 March 2013, and at The Three Counties Hotel in Hereford on 20 March 2013.
Speaking at the events councillor Graham Powell, Cabinet Member Herefordshire Council, said: “This is the first step on our journey to build a network for the future by investing in technology that will future proof our county."
If you care about the speed of your broadband (and frankly we all should as it can make such a difference to our lives and indeed increasingly to our property prices) then please sign up and register your interest with Fastershire, Click on website link below, and then click on the "Register Your Interest" button, and fill in the very brief form), to make sure that Lyonshall gets prioritised during the phasing of this project. Priorities will be determined by a mixture of what is practical and feasible, as well as the amount of demand that there is in any given location.
Browse the Fastershire website to find out the details of this hugely complex project.

Please keep your eyes open for a "small, very thin, young" black labrador that has been sighted on the loose between Lyonshall Nurseries and the Church. It appears to have been wearing a red or pink collar.
Does anyone know whose it is? If you see it please try and catch it, and let Simon know at the Nurseries (340214).

A meeting will be held in The Royal George Thursday 2nd May 2013 starting at 7pm to which all Lyonshall residents are invited.
The 'story so far' on Lyonshall in Bloom will be explained, and an outline given of the next steps, how you can help and your ideas will be welcomed.
Simon Thomas from Lyonshall Nurseries will be on hand and can advise on planning your garden if wanted.

Please see letter below from Herefordshire Council and link about an upcoming, significant road closure in Hereford.
Dear Parish Clerk,
I am sending this communication to you on behalf of Welsh Water and Sir Robert McAlpine.
The re-development of the Old Market site in Hereford City is well underway and will require some major changes to services such as water and electricity. The first of those changes will be work to move a mains sewer pipe in Newmarket Street. The work which will be undertaken by Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, in conjunction with Sir Robert McAlpine will mean that Newmarket Street, eastbound will be closed for up to four weeks from 12 May 2013.
I have attached Welsh Water’s information leaflet which includes the diversion routes for the duration of the works. Welsh Water is mailing this leaflet to 4,500 homes and businesses in Hereford city over the next two days. This will be followed with a second mailing two weeks prior to the work. Advanced signage outlining the diversion and the number for Welsh Water’s customer services will appear on the network on April 26 2013.
Many thanks
