In recent years, the Parish Council has been gritting/salting the pavements in the village when needed under the Lengthsman Scheme. Before this when Herefordshire Council was solely responsible no gritting was carried out. Gritting pavements has been carried out early on several cold, frosty mornings recently which has been appreciated by many people.
However, the final decision must be made at the time in response to the conditions. A decision will be made on the morning by the Parish Council. The general principle being applied is that if it is 0 or below and damp on the pavements then grit will be applied as early as is reasonable. When it is damp but not freezing or freezing but not damp then it is not usually slippery.
Remember it is your responsibility to assess conditions on pavements and to take extra care if it is frosty or freezing.
The Bells at our Parish Church will toll 31 times at 6pm on Sunday 27th November in remembrance of Private William Leek who died - of wounds received in The Battle of The Somme - 100 years ago on this day.
The Reverend George Worsop-Hyde MA, MC (Vicar of Lyonshall 1957-71), who won his ‘Military Cross for Gallantry’ in The Battle of The Somme in November 1916 and went on to be an “Ace” in The Royal Flying Corps, will be remembered also at “Evensong” which follows immediately after the ‘Tolling of The Bells’.
The Kleen Repair Cafe, offers the service of several specialists in electrical repairs , carpentry, textiles, tool sharpening and a wide range of other skills so that hand carried items that have been hanging around peoples houses could get repaired.
We can work with the person bringing the item to show them our approach and they are welcome to have a drink from the Border Bean opposite the market hall while we are working on it.
Its all free, with donations as wished.
The goals are that we save something from just being thrown away and we transfer some skills on how to repair.
Any questions , give me a ring on 01544 232722
