Faith in Fostering initiative encourages people to foster with Herefordshire Council

Herefordshire Council are reaching out to ask for your help in addressing the national shortage of foster carers. Herefordshire Council currently has around 390 children in care and only 130 fostering households. This shortfall means children often have to move out of county, sometimes as far as Cornwall, London or even Scotland, in order to find a suitable home.

Herefordshire’s foster carers provide incredible support to Herefordshire’s children, but more people are required to help meet the needs of local young people in care.

Foster carers are kind, caring, patient and compassionate people who offer safe, stable and loving homes for children. We ask you to consider if you have these attributes and can give the time and space required to create brighter futures for local children.

There will be a Fostering Information Event from 6 - 8pm on Monday 7th October at Bishop’s Palace in Hereford where you can find out more about fostering. Visit the Eventbrite page for more information, or to book your place.

You can also call 01432 383240, email fostering@herefordshire.gov.uk or visit the Herefordshire Council website to start your fostering journey.

Wraparound Childcare – Important Survey for Parents and Carers

Wraparound care includes childcare before and after the school day, such as breakfast and after school clubs.

Herefordshire Council are urging parents and carers to complete a survey to give their views on what is available locally. This will inform work towards enabling all parents to be able to access wraparound care in their local area.

The survey is open until Monday, 4th November 2024. To participate, visit the Herefordshire Council Website.

Review of Polling Districts, Polling Places and Polling Stations

Herefordshire Council is currently undertaking its review of polling districts, polling places and polling stations. The council is required to do this every five years.

The review offers an opportunity to take account of known future changes, for example, where buildings have ceased or will cease to be capable of being used as polling stations; and consider more suitable buildings that are, or are due to become available.

A Notice of Review was published on 30th August 2024 and the (Acting) Returning Officer has now published their recommendations.

Everyone is invited to view and comment on the recommendations proposed and we welcome any feedback you may have. You can find more information, the proposed recommendations and the online consultation form on our website www.herefordshire.gov.uk/pollingreview

The consultation will end Monday 18th November 2024.
